Date: 2nd April, 2025
Venue: K. L. Mehta Dayanand College for Women, Faridabad
The Phytozootech Club of K. L. Mehta Dayanand College for Women, Faridabad, successfully organized a vermicomposting activity on 2nd April , 2025 in the Botanical Garden of the college campus. This initiative aimed to promote sustainable waste management practices and highlight the benefits of organic composting using earthworms. The setup for vermicomposting was established three months ago with regular monitoring of parameters such as moisture, temperature, and feedstock composition. The process involved the use of biodegradable kitchen waste and garden litter, which was efficiently converted into nutrient-rich vermicompost with the help of earthworms.
After consistent efforts over the last three months, a good quantity of vermicompost was successfully harvested. The compost is currently being applied to various plants in the Botanical Garden as an organic fertilizer to assess its effects on plant growth and health. The team is now observing the impact of vermicompost on the plants and the results are awaited.
The event was graced by the presence of the college Principal, Dr. Manju Dua, who encouraged and motivated the students to engage in environmental sustainability practices. The activity was conducted under the able guidance of Dr. Meenu Dua (Head, Department of Science) and Dr. Shveta Arya, who provided continuous support and motivation throughout the process. Dr. Meenu Dua addressed the students, emphasizing how vermicomposting practices can be further developed for better results in the future.

Biotech 3rd year), along with 50 other club members, actively participated, showcasing strong teamwork and dedication.
