Department of Science celebrated National Wildlife Week from 2nd to 8th October 2025

National Wildlife Week Celebration (2nd–8th October 2025)
Theme: “Wildlife Conservation: Investing in People and Planet”
The Department of Science, K.L. Mehta Dayanand College for Women, Faridabad, celebrated *National Wildlife Week* from *2nd to 8th October 2025* with great enthusiasm and commitment. The celebration was organized around the theme *“Wildlife Conservation: Investing in People and Planet,”* with the objective of promoting awareness about biodiversity conservation and inspiring students to contribute towards a sustainable future.
Inaugural Day and Competitions (3rd October 2025)
The week-long celebration commenced with the lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolising wisdom, knowledge, and harmony with nature.
On 3rd October 2025, Debate and Photography Competitions were held, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students across various streams.
In the Debate Competition, students presented insightful views on issues related to wildlife conservation, showcasing their awareness and responsibility towards protecting biodiversity.

In the Photography Competition, students beautifully captured the hidden beauty of the college campus — portraying birds, insects, and plants that reflect the rich biodiversity of the environment.

* 🥇1st Prize: Khushboo Kumari Singh (B.Sc. Life Science 3rd Semester) and Priya (B.Sc. Life Science 5th Semester)
* 🥈 2nd Prize: Simran Chaprana (B.Sc. Life Science 3rd Semester)
* 🥉 3rd Prize: Vandana (B.Sc. Life Science 5th Semester)

The competitions were judged by Ms. Vandana Kumari (Assistant Professor, Department of Science) and Ms. Benu Mehta (Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science). The programme concluded with a vote of thanks followed by the National Anthem.
On 4th October the Department organized Bird Feeder Making (Best out of Waste) and T-shirt Painting Competitions.
Students demonstrated creativity and environmental awareness by crafting innovative bird feeders using waste materials and painting expressive T-shirts that conveyed messages of wildlife protection and ecological balance.

The competitions were judged by Dr. Beena Sethi (Head, Department of Science) and Dr. Pragati Chitkara (Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science), who appreciated the participants’ creativity and environmental commitment.
As part of the ongoing celebration, a Wildlife Documentary Screening was organized on 6th October 2025.
The documentary titled “Chilika – Jewel of Odisha” depicted the natural splendor of Chilika Lake, India’s largest coastal lagoon and the world’s second-largest, highlighting its biodiversity, migratory bird populations, and endangered Irrawaddy dolphins. It also reflected on the lake’s role in supporting local communities and maintaining ecological balance.
Students watched the film with enthusiasm and curiosity, gaining valuable insights into the interdependence of humans and nature.
The week-long celebration concluded on 8th October 2025 with a Rally and a Wall of Pledge activity aimed at fostering awareness and responsibility towards wildlife conservation.
Students and faculty members actively participated, carrying banners, placards, and slogans advocating wildlife protection. The Wall of Pledge served as a symbolic initiative where students signed their commitment to conserving nature and maintaining ecological balance.
Throughout the week, Principal Dr. Meenu Dua played a pivotal role in motivating the students. In her addresses across various events, she emphasized the significance of wildlife conservation in maintaining ecological balance and ensuring a sustainable future. She appreciated the creativity, enthusiasm, and environmental awareness displayed by the students and encouraged them to actively contribute to preserving biodiversity through small yet meaningful actions.
The entire series of events was successfully organized under the expert guidance and coordination of Dr. beena Sethi ( Head, Department of Science) and Dr. Shveta Arya whose constant support, meticulous planning, and leadership ensured enthusiastic student participation and the smooth execution of all activities throughout the week.
